Bioregional Design
Bioregional Design is the Edu Talk by Henriëtte Waal, an artist, designer, the artistic leader of Veenweide Atelier, and the co-founder of Atelier LUMA, a biodesign lab dedicated to material engineering and bioregional practices. In her lecture Waal shares insights from her extensive fieldwork across Mediterranean wetlands. She demonstrates how local raw materials, traditional craft knowledge, and natural resources can unite to build resilient community systems for spaces, packaging, and crafts in an era of rapid environmental shift.
This talk was recorded live at the Mikser Festival 2026 in Novi Pazar, Serbia, as part of the Next Gen Design Edu Talks series organized by MIKSER. Next Gen Design is a three-year initiative promoting green and sustainable design within the European design sector, especially among young designers, supporting the European Green Deal. The program involves collaborations between five key design platforms and festivals: Skopje Design Week (Public Room), Mikser Festival from Belgrade (Mikser), designaustria, What Design Can Do from Amsterdam, and Barcelona Design Week (Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation), with support from the European Commission.
