PREVRTENO

CONCEPT

PREVRTENO: THE ARCHITECTURE OF ZERO WASTE

“Prevrteno” is a bold statement in unisex fashion, born from the intersection of Macedonian tradition and radical industrial circularity. Driven by a commitment to 100% waste material utilization from the Okitex factory, this project explores the structural potential of discarded textiles. The result is a striking, modern jacket that uses “prevrteno” (inverted or turned) logic—reimagining the scraps and packaging of the garment industry as the primary elements of a high-performance wardrobe. It is a fusion of craftsmanship and textile innovation.

TEAM

Ecosystem Designer & Facilitator

Benjamin’s practice focuses on ecosystem restoration and agricultural land management. Drawing from permaculture principles, he creates collaborative spaces for reconnection between humans and “more-than-human” entities. His work challenges human-centered frameworks to foster equity and respect for the planet.

Industrial Designer & Master Craftsman

A student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and a trained professional carpenter, Ludwig seeks the parameters of craftsmanship in every design. His experience in glass, ceramics, and wood allows him to explore the sensual potential of materials and translate tactile qualities into serial production and architectural form.

PROCESS

Industrial Collaboration: Workflow and Transparency

Gaining a comprehensive understanding of production

Our residency unfolded through a close collaboration between industry and design practice. It started at the Okitex factory, where we gained a comprehensive understanding of their production system—its tools, spaces, materials, and workflows—thanks to the generosity and transparency of their management team. Access to production waste played a key role, as we were invited to select and reuse discarded fabrics and packaging materials, supporting the development of our prototypes.

The Creative Phase: Mentorship and Skill-Building

Testing ideas through making and experimentation

The creative phase took place at the Centre for Design and Innovation, Public Room. Continuous mentorship allowed us to develop new skills, test ideas through making, and approach sewing with confidence and curiosity. Inspired by Macedonian tradition and driven by a commitment to 100% waste material utilization, we treated every scrap of fabric and packaging as a structural component, requiring a methodical approach to garment construction.

The Final Prototype: A Striking Unisex Vision

Modernity through tradition and resource efficiency

Through this process of experimentation, we created “Prevrteno”—a modern unisex jacket. The jacket is a physical manifestation of our journey, proving that industrial waste can be transformed into a high-quality, striking garment. By marrying the precision of craftsmanship with a commitment to zero-waste, the project sets a new standard for how traditional inspiration can drive the future of sustainable, community-driven fashion.
