From Sarajevo to Kyoto: Crafting Sustainable Design Futures

Natasa Perkovic

Mikser Festival 2025, Belgrade

Edu Talk: From Sarajevo to Kyoto: Crafting Sustainable Design Futures is a lecture by Natasa Perkovic, associate professor at the department of product design, Academy of Fine Arts, University of Sarajevo, creative director at GoEs and a founder of Natasa Perkovic Design Studio (Bosnia and Herzegovina). In her lecture, Natasa reflects on her roots in a family of woodworkers in Central Bosnia and how this legacy shaped her journey into chair design. Once uninspired by furniture, her perspective shifted through education and international experience and exchange. Today, she is a leading figure in the revival of Bosnia’s woodworking heritage and branding Bosnian design.

This Edu Talk, part of the 2025 Mikser Festival in Belgrade, is featured in the Next Gen Design Edu Talks series. Next Gen Design is a three-year initiative promoting green and sustainable design within the European design sector, especially among young designers, supporting the European Green Deal. The program involves collaborations between five key design platforms and festivals: Skopje Design Week (Public Room), Mikser Festival from Belgrade (Mikser), designaustria, What Design Can Do from Amsterdam, and Barcelona Design Week (Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation), with support from the European Commission.
